No. 8 ranked X-Women Dominate Huskies in 85-5 Home Victory

(Antigonish, NS) - The U SPORTS No. 8 ranked STFX X-Women earned their second consecutive win of the season with a commanding 85-5 victory over the visiting Saint Mary's Huskies on Saturday afternoon at STFX Stadium.

The X-Women came out firing, scoring their first try just five minutes into the match and never looking back. They tallied 13 tries on the day, with 10 different players finding the try zone. Veteran leaders Courtney Gottselig, Jessie Penney, and Ava Bangs each crossed the line twice, setting the tone for the high-powered StFX attack.

Single tries were scored by Jillian Griffith, Val VonMueldorfer, Shona Galloway, Macey Corey-Loveless, Alison LeBlanc, Macy McDonell, and Brown'nesha Willis-Glasgow.

The X-Women's kicking game was equally effective, with Griffith converting four tries in the first half and Katie Murphy adding six conversions in the second.

Saint Mary's lone points came early in the second half courtesy of a try from Sophie van Berkel, but StFX quickly regained momentum, scoring six unanswered tries to close out the match.

Back row standout Shona Galloway was named Gabriel Pizza Player of the Game for her relentless play on both sides of the ball.

With the win, StFX improves to 2-0 on the season and will look to continue their momentum when they travel to Wolfville to face the always-competitive Acadia Axewomen next Friday night, September 19, at 7 p.m.
